TURNING HISTORY INTO LITERATURE

Thursday 4th May: 3.00pm – Author Tony Bryan discusses the process of creating historical fiction

How do you weave together actual historical events to create an authentic, relevant and interesting story for modern audiences? Author Tony Bryan, who has recently moved to Frodsham from Worcestershire, will explore the process of writing historical fiction by drawing on his own recent Baltimore historical romance trilogy.

He was inspired to write this compelling historical saga by hearing of the little-known invasion of Baltimore in Southern Ireland by Moorish raiders, who ransacked the village, taking the young into captivity to transport them to the North African slave markets.

Originally hailing from Liverpool, Tony has previously enjoyed success as a playwright and theatre producer and is currently in discussion with an American film company about a screenplay based on the Baltimore books. His latest work, The Tailor Spy, is also inspired by historical events – this time focusing on a heroic real-life tailor at the Battle of Worcester on the final day of the English Civil War in 1651.
